CASE Insights: Measuring Social Web Expertise: Moving Beyond Usage Experience!

  • Dafydd Rees · 2 months ago
Length of experience certainly isn't a measure of competence in the software development business although most recruiters and non-technical managers hire on the basis of "length of time elapsed using technology x".

I've observed two things about this:

    1) People routinely ask for more "years of experience" in a technology than the total number of years for which the technology has existed(!), and

    2) Length of time spent using a technology doesn't measure that person's success or effectiveness. It's possible for people to work inefficiently for years without significant interest in improving their work or understanding.

Why don't people take more of an interest in measurable results gained from using a technology instead?
